In the process of learning more about search engine optimization (SEO) you are going to learn all sorts of tips and tricks about how to improve your rankings. As you learn, you will know what to do. But what you should really be learning is what not to do. Improving in this search engine optimization field requires a few mistakes every now and then. Making mistakes is okay, as long as you do not hurt yourself in the process. In order to help you with SEO, we decided to create an article that shows you some of the largest mistakes people make with search engine optimization.
Publishing lots of copy meant only for search engine spiders. Writing this type of content is a little different than creating articles for your readers or subscribers. Sometimes near the footer, or even at the end of an actual article, Internet Marketers will try to trick the search engines by adding blocks of text stuffed with keywords – this is a huge mistake! Usually this is done to trick the spiders into indexing what they have written. Hyperlinks are often included with the blocks of text.
When they find this, the spiders will understand keyword stuffing has occurred. This hurts your overall ranking so don’t do it.
You need to consider whether or not Google is watching you. It is assumed that Google monitors everyone’s SEO activities, yet no one has actual hard data on whether or not this is actually happening. Only an unintelligent individual would assume otherwise. Any type of a traffic spike, such as using an auto submitter and getting thousands of links back to your site in a day, might not be the best course of action. More than likely, Google will see this. When this is done, you are labeled, and rightly so, as spamming the Internet. Once you make the spiders mad, especially if you are delisted, it will be hard to rebuild. Your best bet pretend that you’re Mom is watching you – this is exactly what Google is probably doing when you do SEO online.
Don’t do too much internal linking. Internal linking is very useful for ranking well in the search engines. They like it when your pages are internally linked. This should never be overdone! The Google spiders, specifically their algorithms, will water down the weight or importance of your links if you do over-linking on your site. What will happen is that each link will get less and less traffic due to the sheer volume of internal links on your site. You’d much rather have a few heavily trafficked links than a lot of barely trafficked links.
You have to believe that this is true! You have to strike a balance. At the point of equilibrium, your site will start receiving lots of traffic, which is how you will know that you have the right balance of links.
If you really want to succeed on the Internet, Search Engine Optimization or SEO strategies will help you reach your goals. You must do this the right way. Although you will find thousands of documents on how to do SEO the right way, very few of them will tell you what to avoid.
The information in this article should hopefully steer you in the right direction saving you agony and valuable time. And if you make mistakes, they can only make you wiser along the way. And if you can learn from the mistakes of others, this is a much better route to take.
